The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has elected claims expert Jonathan Clark as its new president.

Clark is global head of claims for business solutions at SCOR. He takes over from Dame Inga Beale, who recently confirmed she would step down as chief executive of Lloyd’s of London next year.

The new CII president has been at SCOR since 2013, when he joined as head of claims in London. He has held executive roles at Crawford and Cunningham, and was claims director at the Financial Services Compensation Scheme between 2007 and 2009.

As president of the CII, Clark’s focus will be on promoting and developing a united profession, across standards, professionalism and diversity of membership.

He said: “To this end, I will be championing a renewed focus on the CII’s efforts to promote the profession, to continue to attract young talent and to ensure clients’ and customers’ interests are always at the heart of the profession’s focus.”

Beale, who was the first woman to serve as chief executive of Lloyd’s, leaves the top CII job having spent her term focusing on attracting new talent to insurance.

She said: “The past year has been an exciting time as we seek to develop the profession and progress by embracing new technologies in order to attract the very best talent into insurance.”

Beale added: “Launching the Aspire Apprenticeships Programmes was a particular highlight of my term.”

Nick Turner, director at NFU Mutual, was confirmed as the new deputy president of the CII.
