Thomas Miller Specialty has moved its claims operations to Newcastle following a strategic review of its operations in Hamburg, Germany.
The global insurance provider’s Hamburg-based claims operation will be under the remit of Thomas Miller Claims Management (TMCM) in Newcastle, as part of its strategy in response to Brexit.
TMCM is a marine risk management consultancy providing claims handling, adjusting and operational support services to its clients in the global insurance provider’s core sectors of marine, transport and general commercial business.
Going forward, Hamburg will serve as the fully operational hub of all Thomas Miller Specialty businesses.
The management team is developing “an ambitious growth plan” across the UK and Europe, with Hamburg as a key focal point alongside the concentration of claims handling in Newcastle.
A further aspect of the strategy includes the founding of the London branch of Thomas Miller GmbH as an important additional part of the company’s Brexit strategy.
Hugo Wynn-Williams, chairman of the global insurance provider, says “it makes commercial sense to integrate our claims handling function for Hamburg within the larger claims function in Newcastle”.
He continues: “We are also focusing our efforts on making the Hamburg office an integral part of Thomas Miller Specialty and establishing it as its European centre post-Brexit.”
“The group’s European proposition has developed strongly since we opened the Rotterdam office in 2019 in readiness for the longer term implications of Brexit. We have a growing presence throughout Europe and now have 51 employees spread across its regional bases in Rotterdam, Hamburg, Piraeus and Limassol.”
